Board To Death Halloween Treehouse of Tone Ep. 7: Goblin Cock

Aaron Rogers

What a bunch of jerks. Goblin Cock totally stood us up and had their guitar techs do the interview, but those guys don’t know anything.

Seriously, what is Nick Reinhart thinking trying to put a fuzz on Lick Myheart’s pedalboard?

I mean, it’s obvious that the Arrows pre-amp booster is just the thing to push the band’s matching Mesa Boogie rigs into tight, cutting overdrive without muddying up the low end. Everybody knows that, right? It’s like, amateur hour over here. Ugh. This is just unbelievable. I need to quit this rock and roll business right now and be a trucker like my dad.

But Nick’s not all bad. He totally nailed it with the Levitation reverb. Its bright, splashy, spring/plate-style reverb is perfect for fancying up the tone of those $50 Craigslist guitars they’re using.

Anyway, let’s get this over with. Bassist Tinnitus Island (whose tech was unavailable for interview, presumably because he’s been a bad boy who should sit and think about what he’s done) uses the Palisades on bass for a massive, distorted low-end that still cuts through the mix like the stench of vinegar that seems to emanate from each band member. They really need to wash those robes.

[Editor’s note: the members of Goblin Cock and their guitar techs have never been seen together in the same room. Prior to landing in the gutter, Rob Crow fronted the band Pinback. He’s very grateful to Goblin Cock for all they’ve done for him. Nick Reinhart allegedly plays guitar and sings in the band Tera Melos, who are like, on tour now, or something. The fact that “Lick Myheart” rhymes with “Nick Reinhart” is a total coincidence.]
